Description
Dark Horse Nebula (on the left sideways with legs pointed to the right)
The Dark Horse nebula is a colossal dark nebula in the constellation of Ophiuchus. It is one of the largest dark nebulae in the night sky at 10 degrees across and 7 degrees wide, and obscures a portion of the bulge of the Milky Way. Its name comes from its horse-like shape and it is also known as the "Great Dark Horse" as well as "The Prancing Horse."
Rho Ophiuchi (colorful cluster of stars on the right)
The Rho Ophiuchi nebular complex is a beautiful, gigantic cloud of colorful cosmic dust and gas located 460 light-years from Earth in the constellation Ophiuchus. It's one of the closest stellar nurseries to the solar system.
The Pipe Nebula lies between Rho Opiuchi and the Dark Horse Nebula
