During October 2024 we had a rare opportunity to photograph Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) as it was moving away from Earth. As it did so, it also moved higher in the sky and closer to the Milky Way. Ever since learning about the comet and it's position in the sky, I've had this image in mind. I wanted to create something that hopefully moves people and gives them pause. The amount of "space" in this image is almost unimaginable. The Comet is moving at roughly 150,000 MPH, it's tail is 18 million miles long and it's roughly 50 million miles from Earth in this photo. To put that into perspective, the milky way you see here on the left side of the church is 26,600 light years away from us, each light year is roughly 6 trillion miles...
